The “Sustaining the African Health Initiative Community of Practice,” aimed at strengthening health systems in sub-Saharan Africa through collaborative learning and implementation research. The initiative seeks to build a community of implementation science practitioners, share health systems strengthening lessons, and promote research uptake for policy-making and healthcare improvements based on findings from the African Health Initiative implementation research. The Project Secretariat is based at the University of Ghana Regional Institute for Population Studies.
The multi-country project focuses research capacity building through postdoctoral fellowships, short courses, and catalytic research funding; leadership development; advocacy and communication efforts; and convening meetings to foster learning and collaboration.

The Ghana team is dedicated to scaling up lessons learned from two key programs:
- The Ghana Essential Health Intervention Project (GEHIP)
- The Programme for Strengthening Community-Based Health and Planning Services (CHPS+)
Additionally, the team emphasizes capacity building for early-career scholars, equipping them with the tools and skills to contribute to health systems strengthening efforts.
