As part of its seminar series, RIPS hosted Prof. Jean-François Kobiané, who presented his research on the socioeconomic trajectories of women in Burkina Faso. His work examines how educational and labor market participation impacts women’s chances of achieving socioeconomic success, highlighting persistent inequalities in access to quality education and employment opportunities.
The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, exploring objective and subjective measures of success, such as income levels and personal perceptions of achievement. Findings reveal that factors such as place of birth, educational attainment, and family dynamics significantly influence women’s socioeconomic outcomes. The seminar’s discussions emphasized policy implications, suggesting that improving women’s access to education and employment could help bridge gender disparities and foster greater social equity.
