Adriana A. E. Biney is a Senior Lecturer in Population Studies at the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), University of Ghana. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (Biochemistry Option) from the City College of New York (CCNY) and the Macaulay Honors College at the City University of New York (CUNY). She also received her Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Population Studies from the University of Ghana. In addition, she has undertaken positions as a postdoctoral visiting scholar and researcher at the Population Research Institute at The Pennsylvania State University and the Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge, respectively.   

Adriana has taught research methods, urbanization and development and gender-related courses at RIPS and other centres and institutes at the University of Ghana, and has supervised about 40 graduate students to date. She has over a decade of professional experience undertaking both qualitative and quantitative studies on sexual and reproductive health, urban health, maternal and child health and health systems research. She has received grants from a number of funders including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Cambridge-Africa ALBORADA project to carry out her research. She has also consulted on projects funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Inc., USAID, IDRC and WHO, to name a few. Adriana is currently a member of the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), Union for African Population Studies (UAPS), and the Population Association of America. She has publications in many widely read peer reviewed journals.
