PhD IN POPULATION STUDIES – ADMISSIONS 2024/2025

The Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), University of Ghana, offers a      full-time/part-time Doctoral training programme in Population Studies. The programme is aimed at equipping students with a deeper understanding of the behaviour of the human population and providing them with the basic knowledge and tools for characterizing and describing changes that occur within such populations, including their growth, structure, spatial distribution and their interrelationships with other phenomena. The course presents and develops the basic methods and models that are used by demographers to study the behaviour of human populations. The programme is delivered through didactic teaching, seminars, and practical research that prepares students for careers in academia, research, and governmental or non-governmental organizations. To this end, the programme has well-structured coursework and fieldwork during the period of study. 

PROGRAMME DURATION:

Full-Time Students  :          4 years (8 Semesters)

Part-Time Students :         6 years (12 Semesters) 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A good first degree (at least Second Class Lower);
  2. A good record from Masters in Population Studies or an equivalent qualification (MA/MSc/MPhil.) from a recognized/accredited University;
  3. Provision of documentation: Undergraduate/Baccalaureate Certificate, Masters Certificate, Transcripts, Motivation Statements, Proposal; 
  4. Shortlisted candidates may go through a selection interview for admission into the programme.
