MA/MPHIL IN POPULATION STUDIES – ADMISSIONS 2024/2025

The Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), University of Ghana, as part of its contribution to knowledge, research, and global development, offers MA/MPhil in Population Studies to train and mentor students and experts in the field of Population Studies and related disciplines. These programmes are aimed at equipping students with a deeper understanding of the behaviour of human populations and provides them with the basic knowledge and tools for characterizing and describing changes that occur within such populations, including their growth, structure, spatial distribution and their interrelationships with other phenomena. It presents and develops the basic methods and models that are used by demographers to study the behaviour of human populations. These programmes are a year-taught courses with a dissertation/thesis that every student must submit as part of the requirements for the award of the MA/MPhil degree. The training and skills acquired at RIPS prepare our students for careers in research, government, non-governmental institutions, industry, as well as in academia. 

PROGRAMME DURATION:

MA Programme       :    1 Year (2 Semesters)

MPhil Programme   :    2 Years (4 Semesters)

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

MA Programme:

  1. A good first degree in the Social Sciences/Humanities from an approved/accredited University;
  2. Provision of documentation: Undergraduate/Baccalaureate Certificate, Transcript, Motivation Statements, Proposal, Curriculum Vitae; 
  3. Shortlisted candidates may take an entrance examination and go through a selection interview for admission into the programme.

MPhil Programme:

  1. A prospective MPhil student must have completed the MA Population Studies programme with at least grade B+ (or a GPA of 3.5 and above) to be considered or

A good academic record in a relevant MA programme from a recognized University.

  1. Provision of documentation: Undergraduate/Baccalaureate Certificate, Transcript, Motivation Statements, Proposal.
